The End
Friday, March 13, 2009 Well, that's it then. Now you know what happens. Yeah, it's a little mushy (in more ways than one), but it's the right ending. Funny story: when I initially decided to end Ugly Hill, I was going to have all the characters come to the very precipice of happiness... then have the entire town crushed by a rogue meteor. True story! That certainly would have fit with the theme of the strip over the last 3+ years, but I just couldn't do it. It wasn't fair to the readers who have come to care about the characters, and it wasn't fair to me. Getting Hastings and Hope together and giving them a baby was something I've wanted to do for a long time, and even though it was a lot more work, I would have regretted not doing it. I want to thank everyone for the support and kind words over the years, and especially during the last month. It's been crazy-bananas the amount of kind words I've been fielding since I announced the end of the strip. If I haven't gotten back to you, it's not because I don't care, but because I'm suffocating under a mountain of good will. I'm glad everyone enjoyed it. The best thing for me is that you actually seem to care about what happens to the characters, which what I always hope to achieve. But hey! What's next, you ask? I have an answer for that: I'm not really sure! I didn't say it was a good answer. Well, that's not entirely true. I do have some ideas, but I can't tell you much about them. I will say that one of them is a collaborative project with someone you probably know. If you want any more out of me, you'll have to sign up here. It's just a simple mailing list my friend Bill Barnes of Unshelved fame set up for me to let you guys know when I'm coming out with any new projects. I promise not to spam you, unless you like that sort of thing... you freak. And if you don't want to do that, you could always follow me on Twitter for updates. Either way, I hope you'll stick around for the next thing. I'm not really sure what to say to close this out, so I'll just leave you with this great drawing Brian Prindiville sent me this morning. Thank you, Brain, and thanks to everyone for reading Ugly Hill! ![]() |

It's Brand Spanking NEWW!
Thursday, February 12, 2009 Hey, do you like webcomics? Will you be looking for something to do in Easthampton, MA between March 20th - 22nd? Do you want to yell at me in person for ending Ugly Hill? What are the odds that I have a solution to all of your problems? Extremely good.Yes, the "New England Webcomics Weekend" is coming, and I will be there, along with such webcartoonists as Scott Kurtz, Kris Straub, Bill Barnes, Meredith Gran, Jeph Jacques, and so many more you could probably destory the entire professional webcomics community with a well-placed hand grenade. But don't, though. Do, however, visit the official website here, RSVP on Facebook here, and show up in Easthampton, MA between March 20th - 22nd if you want to meet one or all of these awesome people, buy their stuff, and/or yell at them! I'll probably be there on Saturday, but I'll let you know if that changes. See you there? |
